New Bold Indo-Chinese Restaurant Tangra Opens in Soho

This October, Soho’s vibrant dining scene will welcome an exciting new addition: TANGRA, a bold Indo-Chinese restaurant that promises to bring a fresh edge to London’s culinary landscape. Located just steps away from iconic landmarks like Ronnie Scott’s and Bar Italia, TANGRA will channel the buzzing, electric energy of Soho, offering a flavorful dining experience from lunch until the early hours.

A Culinary Tribute to Kolkata’s Tangra Neighborhood

The restaurant draws its name and inspiration from the Tangra neighborhood of Kolkata, known as the birthplace of Indo-Chinese cuisine. This unique culinary style emerged through the innovative blending of traditional Hakka Chinese cooking techniques with Indian spices and ingredients, a legacy first created by the city’s historic Hakka Chinese community. Over time, this cuisine has expanded its reach, finding vibrant expressions in places like Mumbai’s street stalls and Kathmandu’s carts.

Chef Nikesh Sawant at the Helm

At the heart of TANGRA’s bold concept is Executive Chef Nikesh Sawant, whose extensive experience spans kitchens across India, Dubai, Australia, and the UK. Most recently, Chef Nikesh served as a development chef at Mildreds. His vision for TANGRA is clear: "TANGRA is food with fire and attitude, shaped by our team’s roots, stories, and creativity. We only work with the freshest produce and quality suppliers to make sure every bite explodes with freshness and flavor. From the smokiness of the wok to the punch of chili and garlic, this cooking is an evolution of Indo-Chinese cuisine for pure enjoyment", he said.

A Menu Designed for Sharing and Celebration

TANGRA’s menu has been carefully crafted as a celebration of Indo-Chinese flavors, with influences from India, Nepal, Tibet, and beyond. Designed for sharing, the dishes offer a feast of spice, smokiness, and bold tastes. Standout offerings include the Chilli Paneer Hakko, Himawan Sadeko Chick’n, and TANGRA Special Combination Rice - all showcasing the restaurant’s dedication to layering traditional techniques with creativity and innovation.

The chefs emphasize the use of the finest ingredients to ensure every plate is packed with flavor and attitude, perfectly embodying the dynamic spirit of Soho itself.

A Nightlife Destination with Late-Night Dining

Beyond its food, TANGRA aims to be a destination where Londoners can enjoy the energy of the city. With a capacity of 60 covers and operating hours extending to 1:30 a.m., the restaurant is poised to become a favorite spot for late-night eats. Guests can expect an atmosphere where food, music, and lively surroundings come together for an unforgettable experience.

TANGRA is set to open its doors in October 2025, inviting diners to explore a reimagined take on Indo-Chinese cuisine in the heart of London’s Soho district. For those eager to experience a dining concept that combines tradition with innovation, TANGRA promises to deliver a fiery and memorable culinary journey.
